hi,

a friend of mine gave me his 30db - tp-link antenna, so i went and bought a 12m extention cable...it fits perfectly in the antenna, but when i wanted to plug it in the router the connectors are not compatible, like im a complete newbie with this - i took the 12m cable to a few shops in randburg/northcliff and no one could really help me, best i got was a customer from one shop telling me i must try poynting direct they can fix the connector for me. Not sure if thats true but i saw this: http://www.takealot.com/tp-link-0-5m-lmr200-n-type-male-to-rp-sma-female-pigtail-cable/PLID28719961

looks about right, anyone knows if that will connect the extention cable and router (also tp-link) ?

A few things.

1. What type of router
2. What type of antenna
3. What cable did you initially buy?

Without knowing the facts (equipment models) its hard to give advice.

Thanks, then yes to your initial post, that cable should work. Most modern routers use sma and the antenna connector would be reverse polarity. I.e. rp-sma.

What are you trying to achieve with that antenna and router?

That router is a regular home ADSL router;
ADSL
WiFi (2.4+5GHz)
4port gigabit switch
USB

It has omni directional antennae so that all your home devices can connect to it.

The antennae you have is a very directional(Beam-width: V:6° H:4°) 5GHz single polarity grid antenna for outdoor use. It is able to make up to +-30km links outdoors when the same antennae is used on the other side.
It should be coupled with an outdoor radio and router such as a Mikrotik Groove or Ubiquiti Bullet.

If you are trying to make a long range outdoor link, that is the wrong router to be using. Match it with the devices in the links above. Although I would suggest using 2 of these instead for an outdoor link. There are higher and lower gain units to choose from, should your distance be very long or very short, or even AC versions should you require the extra throughput.

If you simply want better wireless coverage at home, this is the wrong antenna completely, rather look at getting UniFi APs.

I need advice please.
looking for a new modem + wifi extender - for Netflix in lounge and laptop in study and 3 cellphones .... general home use. Which modem do you recommend? Also need wifi upstairs whats the best way.

Thanks

I'm no expert but my Netgear router does for me what you require. I also bought a range extender to boost the signal to other parts of the house
