Hi there,

My ADSL line was installed last week Friday, but wasn't working at all. Logged a fault and Telkom, came to my house yesterday and fixed it. They messed up the wiring at the exchange when they converted my line.

Anyway, my line started syncing successfully at 4:25. I set up my router, but alas I had no data at all. Router displayed a green light for synchronization and red for the actual 'internet' light.

Tried all sorts of different things, phoned Mweb, they said everything is fine, phoned telkom they said everything is fine and did a port reset, still no data. Tried the telkom guest account to see if it's an authentication issue, no luck. The router showed it was syncing at 10 Meg, but it didn't lease an IP address.

At 5:35 I refreshed my router, and it got an IP address and my internet worked for 2 minutes after which it lost the IP address and I was back to square one.

I left it, restarted my router and at 6:23 my internet started working again and it worked FLAWLESS (my exchange is behind my house haha).

So it was still working this morning, and everything seems fine. My question is just, can anyone explain why it only started working after 6? I'm just asking out of interest, cause I can't explain it either so would love to know.

iirc Telkom issued a fault/maintenance notice regarding account authentication. This would have caused this type of problem.
