Hi guys, I'm new to the forum but I've been reading it for a while.

I just bought myself a 2010 demo facelift 320d. I am very impressed with it so far :)

What I'd like to know is if any any of you have any tips for in regards to keeping the car in great condition.

I mean stuff like what to treat the seats with to keep them perfect, how long to idle before and after a journey.

Stuff like that. Thx in advance.

Not sure if it has turbo timer or some such safety device.
But I would recommend not immediately shutting the car off once u get where u going, leave it running for 30 seconds

Turbo really only needs a cool down after spirited driving, but I still leave it running for a few seconds before shutting it down.
Enjoy your car :)

I've got the E46 for 13 months now and loving it :)

Congrats Thice! I really want a 320d, its such a great blend of sportiness and economy!

Buy some really good wax and polish stuff, such as Mothers or something similar (not sure whats best)

I would also let the car idle for a bit before shutting it off, but this probably isn't such an issue for modern cars.

Lastly, be nice to your car and only feed it Ultra Low Sulphur Diesel! Thats 50ppm... That 500ppm rubbish isn't even suitable for a Russian tractor!

Enjoy the car bud :)

Unless it has some tech i dont know about, its always a good idea to let the car idle a bit.
50ppm is specified in the maintenance plan. If you dont they can apparently revoke it, although how they will know is beyond me

I'm very jealous. Good job, that is exactly the car I am looking for. But I want to cut costs right now, So I am looking for a 2005 - 2006 model at the moment. Maybe next year I'll look at picking up a nice demo :)

Thx guys.

I got a really good deal on this car otherwise I wouldn't have been able to afford it :o Luckily the only things I have to pay for are the tyres and Diesel.

What's the difference between the types of diesel?

50 ppm is the superior one and the only one you should be using in your car.

500ppm is the crap that trucks run on, and you will eend up destroying your particulate filter on your car if you use it.

50ppm is available in all cities, but you will haver to plan ahead for refuels if you go on a trip say to Swaziland.

Also, the higher the sulphur content of the fuel, the quicker and easier acid forms in your oil, which is a very bad thing if you have oil change intervals of 15k or 20k.

As for idling before shutoff, usually about 30s, but up to 1 minute if you have driven the car hard.

mcryan you said you are looking to buy one and this is the best time of year to buy one. I managed to find one from a BMW dealership with 13k Km's for R285K 2010 facelift, silver and the exclusive package and the professional sound. No sunroof or iDrive. I got financing thru BMW at 7.42%.

I consider this to be an awesome deal :) If it's in your budget shop around now coz the specials will only come up in July or when the new shape/facelift comes out.
