Well, if you wanna call it a low blow ....

My iburst went off today, i contacted them and they said they disconnected it due to excessive usage.

I asked them how much i used and technical support had issues with their system and couldnt tell me how much bandwitdh i have used. to make matters worse, their login panel is not working for me so i cannot check my bandwitdh nor can i purchase more. they tell me the account is deactivated and so i cannot purchase bandwitdh till after the first.

I recieved no notice of excessive usage, no warnings whatsoever, i had to phone them to find out that i was cut off. And i still dont know how much i used ......

and this one day before christmas :(

what kind of world do we live in when you disconnect your clients on the 24th of december ???????

This is really low even for iBurst.

Did you receive any emails?

Doesn't iBurst send the usage to your iBurst email account? (I could be wrong.....)

nope, no emails or nothing.

i spent 2 hours thinking that the tower might be down or something wrong with my router, eventually i called them and found out i was deactivated.

and technical support are completely usseless, first they tell me to unplug the modem, then login to router and check settings etc ... only after i did that 3 times did they find out i was de activated.

aparently all the managers that can reactivate my account is on leave.

iv'e been argueing with iburst since 8:03AM this morning. they won't budge, i am highly cheesed off about this.

My contract expires soon and I WILL NOT be renewing, thats all i can say.

I cannot believe that they would do this one the day before christmas, i am totally baffled, i guess it just shows you how much they care for their clients....

They suck I concur. It's however also because we're in SA. In a 1st world country, you'd have an alternative internet account going within hours, even at this Holiday Time.

well, Itts is in PE and neotel will be here within a couple of months, so its not like i dont have options.

I was planning on maybe going month to month with iburst when my contract expires, but after this little stunt they pulled i will definitely be looking elsewhere. I'll sell my iburst modem and it should cover the installation costs for the next isp.

Iv'e refered 33 clients to iburst this year alone and a few last year, lantic actualy gave me a free external anteanna because of it, and now iburst goes and does this :(

they wont be getting any new clients from me anymore

Neotel has been in Cape Town for ages, it's dug up my driveway 4 months ago, and I still don't have coverage.

Fibre cable doesn't apply to neotel's wimax offering... they dug up your driveway to install optic fibre cables that will allow the company in future to offer fibre access...

Funny thing is that their T&C mentions nothing about excessive usage. You should ask them to put their reasons for disconnecting you in writing. In there they must refer you to the relevant T&C, if they cannot do that they must immediately reconnect you.

I will also be cancelling my iBurst in the new year. Throttled speed is so 90's (and South African). Hopefully with real competition in the future this sorry excuse for a company will disappear.

I realise that, however since they consider the area important for fibre,
I would assume that it would be targetted for Wireless. It seems not to be the case. Still 0 coverage.

How to get around this

This has happened to me 3 times in the last two months, what they do is deactivate your account, and since their web panel authenticates on the same system as your PPP login, it wont let you on.

The trick is to phone their ACCOUNTS dept, don't wast your time with customer services, because they will give you the excessive usage excuse, but if you phone accounts, just tell them you get a message saying your account has been suspended when trying to login, and they will see it as "due to non-payment" they will check your statement and invoice, tell you it was due to a mistake on their side, and re-activate your account. Its about a 6 min phone call that can only be made during business hours, but due to the lack of communication within the company it works to our advantage. :D

Just deal with the accounts dept, don't even bother with CS, because they can't re-activate your account under any circumstances.

This shouldn`t happen in the first place. It is unacceptable and I`m not using iBurst.

How should the customers feel? If I/my company provide a service and we just suspend an account and the account is paid for..... We would be losing clients very very fast. :o

The problem is iBurst is the only viable wireless alternative.... :(

McGuywer, go through MWEB. You get the same iBurst, use the same modem,
and it costs the same plus you get free MWEB Wifi (5hrs per month), free AV package, free online access to some sites, and 2GB mailbox with 5 x 10 MB additional mailboxes and 5 aliases. You never have to deal with iBurst accounts again.

Well sure, its bad, and customers should not have to deal with it, but, its the best of a bad thing, some of the poor sods who are bound to contracts with iBurst can't do much else. If it were up to me, I'd insist on much better service for my customers, but what can you do? Its not like iBurst really cares.

For serious? That sounds better, but do you still get the whole softcap deal with MWEB?

I am very close to the end of my contract, I am even considering cutting my loses and terminating my contract early and putting aerosat back in. in which case i legally can take my time to pay iburst, i think i have 120 days before they can really make any fuss about it and even then i am sure i can extend that time a bit more if i really want to, see how they feel when a client stuffs them around :)

Thank the lord i have a 3g bundle :)

I am going away tomorrow morning at 5AM and only get back on Sunday, but my baby brother is gonna be home for the next week without internet :(

Just give the accounts dept. a call after Day of Good Will and spin them he story I gave ya earlier, they will have your connection up immediately. Pity we have to go to these lengths for a simple service, but thats iBurst for you... I've already inquired with MWEB and I'm taking my iBurst to them asap.

nah, im done with iburst. iv'e made up my mind, im gonna get myself another isp and start phasing out iburst at home.
