Saw this on Takealot.com

I was going to say "Because you can get a Samsung or LG for a similar price" but saw the JVC's claimed resolution of 1366x768 which is interesting. If true then there is no reason to not get it besides this being a Chinese rebrand (not real JVC) lacking quite a few features with a poor quality remote.

I somewhat doubt that this is the true native resolution though. There have not ever been, or at least for many years, 42/43" 1366x768 plasmas, only 1024x768 and some lower resolutions. And JVC certainly aren't making plasma panels. Further problem is that it's difficult to get decent info on JVC TVs in South Africa, even though again it is claimed by their distributor to be 1366x768 - http://nuworld.co.za/index.php?route=product/product&product_id=1240.

Well I currently have a Telefunken FHD 37" LED which I'm happy with :o If you were me, would you go for this?

You are used to a 37" LED-LCD which will either have a 1366x768 or 1920x1080 resolution, native 16:9 aspect ratio/widescreen.

The usual HD Ready 42/43" plasmas are 1024x768, which is a 4:3 aspect ratio. It is made into 16:9/widescreen format by using rectangular pixels opposed to square ones.

This results in the TV doing its own calculations in order to adjust the resolution and scale it correctly. Remember that the pixels are rectangular and the implications of this. A PC will not look good attached, because it will need to be set to 1024x768, and then you're stuck with rectangular pixels so the picture looks misproportioned.

I would only buy it on condition that it is true 1366x768 16:9. Or if you watch a mixture of SD and HD. Or if you like sport.

That said, there's nothing wrong with 1024x768 plasmas, have one myself and it eats LCDs.
