It's cheap for a reason. Usually they're horrible in dim viewing conditions, light bleed/light spots everywhere, poor uniformity. You'll never tell when viewing it under thousands of watts of Massmart lighting.

Also remember that it's not the real JVC. You won't find it on their site. It's rebranded Fong Kong by Nuworld - http://nuworld.co.za/ReadContent768.aspx.

Rather look at Samsung 50" F5000 LCD (UA50F5000) at around R8,000. I think there's even a 55" for around R11,000.

Or better yet, 51" FHD plasma (PS51F5500) at around R8,500. Or the 60" for around R13,000. These are SMART 3D TVs, dual core processors, etc.

Thanks for the response! Would really love a tv with pure android on it though.

My cousin bought a Samsung smart tv and it is so slow moving around the main home screen menu. Are the newer versions the same?

The dual cores are much snappier.

You could also get an Android media player.

I was also tempted by this TV. Until I was told that is was a 60hz rebranded Telefunken. And NuWorld's after sales service, and hence your warranty, is nonexistent.

STAY THE F**K AWAY! I bought a similarly specced 55" JVC from Game a few weeks ago and it was such an awful TV that I was forced to take it back during the 5 day cooling off period! Instead I bit the bullet and bought the smaller, yet far more expensive, 46" Samsung Series 7 LED Smart TV (UA46F7500) from Dion Wired.

The reason I say it was awful is because it's a passive 3D TV yet when you put the glasses on the 3D was shockingly bad and barely noticeable plus the glasses revealed these thick black horizontal lines that made the image look interlaced. Then the other problem is that Youtube didn't work on this TV because it uses the default Android tablet app. So aside from being unable to watch and browse things because I couldn't navigate around the app I also couldn't pair it with a genuine tablet to use for browsing and the TV for playing. :wtf:

I can't stress how much you should avoid this TV, the poor picture quality is not worth it just so you can get Android. As for the difference in quality between it and the Samsung Series 7 it's like chalk and cheese! Not to mention the brilliant image quality helps me to forget that I blew well over 10k on a TV! :p I think the very lowest anyone should consider getting if they can afford a TV around the 10k mark is the UA46F6400 46" Series 6 Samsung.

EDIT: Oh yes, this was the other reason I took it back, I couldn't use my HTPC with this TV because it didn't properly support PC HDMI connections.

tl;dr: DON'T BUY THIS TV!

I wont trust the current JVC and Sansui brands. Not the brands as before.

How thank you for the detailed report! i will stay clear away from this deal!

Wow! This Forum never ceases to amaze me with the advice...

I was looking into buying a new screen, Nu World are one of my suppliers, so I was going through their listings when this particular model caught my attention....

After reading the above advice..... No Ways! Even if I could pick it up on special......

Must admit, the Samsungs I saw at Dionwired, did appeal to me.....

Thanks!

I have the UA46F7500 - good TV :)

Smarthub is crap though... recently started using it for Netflix.

You can get Smarthub if you buy one of Samsung's DVD/blu-ray players as well, your TV don't need to be "Smart". ;)

Lol, yes :p It seems all TV smartness is (still) crap. Buy a display for quality, get a different cheaper device (roku, apple TV, raspberry pi, Android stick, etc) that you can replace more often and will probably work better.

Yeh - I'm using XBMC on HP Microserver, and various Pi's - but my primary HDD failed, so thought I'd give netflix a try.

I've been playing around on the "JVC" 55" for a week now. I have no issue with picture quality, bleed is there, but far less than my 47" LG 3D. As for the 3D, it appears a little better than what my LG pumps out, but I have not tested either with a 3D blu-ray quality rip or movie. The android side was what excited me, but has proved to be most disappointing. It is extremely sluggish and unresponsive at times. I have even managed to completely freeze up the whole damn thing needing to completely power down (remote functionality was gone). I must add that I have not put an SD card in it and i'm currently using a USB 2 16gb flash drive and the onboard flash memory only. The remote control is useless for many android apps, I will need to test if I can run a mini wireless keyboard on the thing to overcome that. Oh, and XBMC does run on it, but I could not get the audio to play clearly (Again the remote control is useless to really change settings effectively).

Now addressing the bleed, the default settings on the TV are too bright, once the brightness levels are set down, I do not notice the bleed at all.

Hi, how do I "power down" this tv. It's basically frozen now. Just says Smart TV loading....... Does not move from there. Please help!! Switched it off at mains a few times already. Is there a reset option?
