Can someone explain something to me? The ground I'm practicing at is the size of a standard parking bay, perhaps a little larger for the alley. What's puzzling to me though is that all of the resources I come across indicate they should be 7m x 2.6 for the parallel bay and 6m x 2.5 for the alley bay. Both of these are way larger than a real parking.

Why are these the indicated sizes and what's the sizes for the testing ground? The instructor also wants me to do the parallel parking perfectly in one move but according to the rules I should be allowed 3 moves to get it in straight.

My Bakkie was just shy of 5m in length and I could never fit in in a parking bay completely.

So I would say on experience they are no bigger then 5m in length.

Yes, the parking bays for K53 are gigantic.

That's why you really should be able to do it in 1 move (they allow you 3 in case you f**k it up on the first attempt, second move is to pull out back to the starting position and the 3rd is to try again)

The bays at the testing station are bigger than real world parkings. The instructor is right to teach you using smaller bays and only allowing one movement tho. Rather over-prepare you so the test is easy than half-arse the lessons and then the test is a struggle.

Tip for parallel parking:

Stop next to the car with your front doors aligning with the rear doors of the front car you want to park behind. Turn and reverse in (You can turn sharp as the distance allocated by putting your doors with the back doors of the car already means you'll miss the rear of the front car. Once 1/2 in start counter turning and you'll be in. Then just go forward to get the space back and front the same.

It's very easy if you do it this way. I showed it to my wife and she hated doing parallel parking. Now she's no longer fuzzed.

Swa? How old are you dude?

You have lots to say for a young whippersnapper :)

Haha. Been driving for over 15 years. Had my learners a couple times and never got around to doing the test.

You sound like my brother.

He's 32 and still goes for a learners every so often when he feels like it... It's pretty damn stupid :D
