Kakamas, Northern Cape

Back in CPT!
I'm currently driving up to Kakamas today. I'm going to be working on a project up there for the next 9 months.

Anyone know what its like up there?
 
Kakamas is a quaint little town; typical Northern Cape people. We spent time there on a road trip and enjoyed it.

While you are there, try getting to Keimoes as well.
 
If you're into the outdoor kind of thing then this is a great little town. Mountain biking, kayaking/rafting on the Orange, hikes , 4x4 trails
They've also got a surprising number of really good little wine estates in the vicinity.
Close enough to Augrabies for a day trip or two

Sunrises and sunsets are some of the most spectacular I have ever seen

If you are looking for nightlife and entertainment then every half hour, bogger-all happens in Kakamas and it carries on like that for the rest of the week
 
Oh yes, forgot to metion: Kakamas and Keimoes is close to the Orange (Gariep?) River and there is this green band/belt on both sides of the river where they produce grapes and some OK tasting wines (Oranjerivier Wine Cellars). Their port is nice. You can do wine tours/tasting.
 
Also remember it's as hot as hell up there, hope your place has aircon.

In February it's also humid, I assume from the orange river and farmers watering their crops, not sure how it is now, hopefully much cooler for you.
 
When I have some free time I will investigate some 4x4 routes. I will be sporting my myBB peak cap in the summertime.

there is a place named Hotazel = hot -az-hel , kathu side 2 + hours from upington
 
We did a 5 day canoe trip down the Orange and it was spectacular and still one of the nicest holidays I have ever had. Very quiet place though, far drive's to get anywhere which costs lots of petrol so if I where planning to be there for any length of time I would take a lot of stuff to entertain myself. Good books, hard drives full of stuff to watch, good games, etc.
 
I've got a few movies on my hard drive that I haven't seen yet. And I have a dissertation due in a months time that I need to finish off. That should keep me busy for a while.
