I started my kali laptop just now after shutting down last night but the boot sequence does not finish and I have no idea why this is happening or how to fix it.

I will post a picture of what is on the screen for about 5 seconds and then it disappears but the machine stays on. If I push any key on the keyboard the screen goes on for a moment showing the same message.

If I push the power button the screen comes on and then the machine shuts down.

Anybody know why this happens or how to fix it?

Don't think the issue is with MSFT0101:00: as that is related to Intel Platform Trust Technology

Did you run any updates yesterday?
Can you chroot into the system from a liveusb stick?

Full model details of laptop?

Yes there was a notification for a system update yesterday which I ran and after completion I did a normal shut down.

My apologies but I have no idea what "chroot into the system" means or even how to do it but am willing to learn and try it.

The laptop in question is a HP Omen.

Try pressing 'Esc' after powering up to get to the boot menu. Navigate to 'advanced options' and try recovery mode, or try selecting a previous kernel.

Tried all of that and could still not get in. Will try again after the weekend

Any update? Did you manage to fix it? I'm curious...

Never ran it outside a vm but I think static_sa has the answer with the trusted platform module settings.

Are your official repositories the default ones?

Offensive security didn't really intend Kali for customisation. There's hundreds of additional lock files scattered over it and changing the repositories is the only thing I can think which will give you an update message rather than manually having to run apt-get update/upgrade

If you installed grub boot loader try running advanced options for kali.

**** come to think of it I did change the default repositories. I have grub installed but going to advanced options did not help although I ran another apt-get update && apt-get upgrade but left the machine over the weekend so will see tomorrow.

Managed to fix it by running apt-get update && upgrade although I still have no idea what was wrong.
