Kali Linux

this is a good option, very fast distros

I'm currently running Manjaro Openbox-Lite and I love it. Comes with minimal apps but the base system is very nice. Also have #! Waldorf (Wheezy) but I don;t like it as much as Statler. Waldorf feels slow and bloated. Other thing is I love Arch and Manjaro fits that bill nicely and a bit more stable but you end up with 'slightly' older packages. Anyway it runs like a demon on my old laptop.

Busy downloading Kali Linux now to test out, think it would a nice to have on a usb stick.

yeh, it should run brilliantly on notebooks. Kali will run well on a flash drive. Had some issues running the live disc on my laptop, trouble with the intel gpu drivers I reckon

Ok kali does not work on my laptop as it does not have cpu with pae support....

Busy downloading 1.0.4 and will see if I can rebuilt the iso with the i486 kernel parameter so it work on non-pae cpus.

Hope you get it sorted. It is a decent distro. It does however seem to be a bit resource hungry when using a gui.

Ta. That's the other thing I would like to 'fix', remove the Gnome they are using and add XFCE & Openbox to the mix. Have not gotten around to it yet but I have booted it on my desktop and it looks pretty cool.

Why would they pick Gnome for such a distro?

Well, back when it was still backtrack they always used gnome, but that was gnome 2, which was stable and worked fine on lower end machines and notebooks. I suppose they don't want to break the ties. It runs dodgey on my I5 notebook with 6 Gb of RAM, which I find quite strange. Loaded KDE instead, always been a KDE fan. tbh, the gui looks nice, but I mostly use shell with these distros. Xfce would be the best to run this in I suppose.
