Karpowership misses another deadline

Karpowership, the Turkish company seeking to install ship-mounted power plants in South African ports, is appealing a decision not to grant it more time to file an environmental permit to operate a 320MW plant on the country’s west coast.

The company’s request for an extension to apply for the permit for the gas-fired plant at the Saldanha port was rejected on 23 May 2023, and an appeal was made a day later, according to documents from the Department of Forestry, Fisheries and the Environment.

No stress. I'm sure Creecy will bend over backwards and spread like the pro that she is

Nothing, since you're not taking cost and time line into account, nuclear is over a decade to build and is the most expensive source for power generation.
Yeah, but after paying that massive amount of money over a decade or so we'd be left with at least one nuclear power station instead of watching a bunch of small power stations detach from the grid and sail away....

Ag no, are the green Karens causing problems? Don't they have someone to go tell to be Vegan?

How would these ships get power to the grid?
I thought there was no grid capacity in the Northern and Western Cape.

Saldanha Bay is very much in the Western Cape, and close to major powerlines feeding Cape Town.

That is not the objective of these ships.

But the Energy Availability Factor (EAF) is quite for nuclear plants, is it not? When both Koeberg plants are running, we don't hear of them breaking down every few days, unlike the coal plants.

What do you think of small nuclear modular reactors, which seem to be the rage in Europe at the moment?

The ships will be way more expensive and we will be locked in for 20 years.
You missed the point, didn't say karpowership is a good option, said both are bad.

Is this some sort of challenge to the ANC to prove you wrong?

Watch this deal be way more expensive than any nuclear power station ever constructed on a per MW basis. Maybe even just more expensive period.

It's already more expensive than any nuclear we would have built, even Jacobs Russian deal on a per MW over the lifetime.
