Karpowership relaunching environmental approval application

Karpowership, the Turkish company seeking to supply 1,220 megawatts of power to South Africa, will refile an application to the environment department in a bid to move its project forward at a time when the nation is suffering its worst-ever power cuts, a person familiar with the situation said.

The application will be filed by Jan. 8 and a response from the department will be given by the end of March, the person said, asking not to be identified as a public statement hasn’t been made.

This could be true, those thieves will do just about anything to make a buck.
But I think it is more plausible that our plants are just old and not well maintained, eskom reduced their debt by a whooping 81 billions last year, I suspect they managed this by heavily cutting into their maintenance budget.

Powerships is a start, but the sad thing is that even if we let ourselves be ripped off by Karpowership, those 3 ships only add around 1200MW into the grid, that just lower 1 stage of load shedding, so ye the future looks bleak, I just hope they made some changes to the Karpowership contracts after the corruption allegations last year.
