kaspersky vs Mcafee

A friend of mine swears by Symantec Internet Security. He did try McAfee for a short while and hated it. A number of our clients use Trend, which is very good.

I used ClamWin (free) (http://www.clamwin.com/) on my XP machine for a while, there is no real-time scan, but the scheduler works well.

I'd rate Kaspersky above McAfee. But I can't say much about the interface and ease of use etc for the newer versions. There are benchmarks done to test their AV protection though, try googling.

For the short time I did use Kaspersky it was good enough, but I prefer NOD32.

Trend is ok, but your friend deserves a kick to the balls for swearing by Symantec/Norton.

As to the original question, Kaspersky is ok but the scan times are a bit long. If you want the best and the fastest then get either Eset's NOD32 or their internet security suite.

kaspersky is top class.

Norton Anti Virus = Huge system overhead. Not nice.

Like "EkHaatVensters" I also prefer NOD32. Although it costs you a few rand, it really kicks ass.

Kaspersky FTW !!! Oh and your Symantec friend is prob. smoking green grass...

I have no experience with NOD on home desktop, but the managed deployment suite comes nowhere near that of Trend. No events logs, no automated reports. If you are not watching the console like a hawk, things will pass you by. (This was ayear or so ago, not sure if they have improved).

Symatec: To each his own. IMO any AV is a overhead my system can do without. Stay away from warez, questionable sites and stop clicking that free gift link in email and you will avoid most of the reasons why people get infected.

The home edition of NOD even has event logs, and has had for years.

I don't think the managed deployment suite (not sure what is is anyway) matters much to home users. :)

You could also consider a package that uses the Kaspersky AV engine like Zone Alarm Security Suite. That way you get best of firewall & antivirus.
