KaZaA slow again with ADSL

Whats happened? I remember during the christmas season that KaZaA was uncapped to all, I should've raped it while it lasted as that seemed to be only a gift from Telkom to us and not a sign of things to change.

Now im UNcapped, yes, UNcapped, and I cant get speeds of 6kbps+ in kazaa. it averages from 5-6 and wont go higher, WTF is telkom on?

Unfortunately Telkom puts p2p networks at the lower end of its priority for data delivery. It should pick up over weekends and overnight...

You're right, Nemesis. Kazaa sucks once again. I think someone at Telkom/SAIX made a mistake for a while and had the port shaping turned off.

Yup if u try to connect to any p2p without switching to 80 or 21 its nearly immpossible. with torrents for example i get about 2kb/s on the standard 6881 but close to 50kb/s on 80.

I've also been trying, the only setting I can find is for "Incomming Connections" under firewall...am I s'posed to be looking for an out going port methinks??

You're in the right place. Also do a search for Kanat if you are using a router.

It's in the options under the Firewall tab. There's a checkbox for incoming on port 80.

You are using Kazaa Lite aren't you?

Search google for Kanat.

Just get eMule, Kazaa is long gone. (I can suggest using port 80 or 22 as your eMule port too [], give that port prioritisation the boot)

This might sound really dumb, sorry, just woke up though. If it uses a random port for outgoing connections, which i don't dispute 'coz I can't find anywhere to change the out port, then how can telkom prioritise it?

I think Telkom's approach is that every port has a low priority except web and mail.

Which BitTorrent client are you using? The standard client won't allow you to change ports, but the likes of BitComet, Azureus, and Torrent Storm will.

After batteling forever with the #$%& port prioritizing for Kazaa/eMule/MIRC I have finally discovered something that work. HTTP-Tunnel (www.http-tunnel.com) solved all my problems. It cost me R30 per month and I can at last download at reasonable speeds.

http-tunnel has been around for years .. just becareful with paying too much for it as a lot of admins block their servers and telkom might 'prioritize' their access too ...
