Hi,

I signed up for a 24month iburst contract from what I read in these forums it was a big mistake:( Iburst was my only option, no other connections available to me except a very slow MTN EDGE connection and at R250 for 500mb.

My speeds so far on iburst is not that bad, by signal strengh is usually between 90%-100%.

My problem is that I get a error message daily then I have to restart my pc and I always have alot of programs and stuff open that I work on, I'm used to only restarting once in a blue moon.

I get this message one or twice a day, sometimes more:

"Generic Host Process for Win32 Services has......."

then my internet connection stops and I have to restart the entire pc.

I went to my system events and I'm getting the following errors in the events log:

Source: Dhcp
Your computer has automatically configured the IP address for the Network Card with network address 00C0EE0D3A1C. The IP address being used is ???????????????.

Source: Service control manager
The %OWC_USBEHCD.DeviceDesc% service failed to start due to the following error:
The service cannot be started, either because it is disabled or because it has no enabled devices associated with it.

Source: ipnathlp
The DNS proxy agent was unable to read the local list of name-resolution servers from the registry. The data is the error code.

I have no idea what to make of all this and I hope someone has a solutions.

Thanks in Advance.

I've got the fix for this annoying bug but from the looks of things Landyman's link contains them as well. A general fix is to just patch up your xp to the latest version but it's far quicker to just apply the hotfixes.

Thanks Landyman, I will check out those links.

Ekhaatvensters: I'm using the USB modem, I haven't had any problems like this, only started after installing the iburst modem. I downloaded the latest modem drivers from the iburst site and installed them also.

Windows XP with Service Pack 2, I downloaded the windows update WindowsXP-KB894391-x86-ENU.exe previously but it still gives me the same error during the day.

Ok, if it was Vista that could have been a driver problem. Did you implement the fix in that thread yet?

You need to install BOTH WindowsXP-KB894391-x86-ENU AND WindowsXP-KB921883-x86-ENU

Neither one of these alone will fix your problem, a combination of both has solved it in most cases for me. But again, if that doesn't work simply apply all new updates to your version of windows as the SVCHOST fix comes standard through windows update.

Basjohn, I have now applied both fixes, hope this does it, I'm at the point of pulling out my hair, this error is so frustrating, I have restarted my pc 4 times in the last 2 hours. Everything works 110% no complaints until that win32 thing crashes.

Thanks for all the help sofar from everybody, it's greatly appreciated.

Good News!:)

After installing the 2 fixes, I've been running my iburst connection without a crash for 18 hours.

Thanks alot Basjohn!!

I know this is an old thread, but I just wanna say thanks, if I didnt find this here I'd still be crashing every few minutes, since I couldn't uppdate anything for the last 3 years until now. =(
