Kenwood radio problems

Hi All,

So a buddy of mine has a Kenwood DDX5034M installed in his VW passat.

Now the strangest problem has been happening, the audio on the front right either goes very soft or is mute altogether, some days it is fine others the problem is there. But now the strange thing is this only happens on Ipod, when you switch back to radio it is fine.

I have changed ipods, changed the ipod cable and checked all the wiring. I also thought it was happening only when the car got hot (in the sun etc) but lately this seems not to matter, happens whether hot or cold.

Ps. The place that installed it is unwilling to help (Frankly I think they do not know where to start to solve the problem)

Idea's or experience with similar issues please?

Possibly a bad solder point on the female jack in the radio? If this happens consistently with different iPods, and the cable ruled out as a possible cause, the only other constant is the jack in the radio. Either that or some other iffy chip/resistor/contact in the radio.

Thanks Mfour, I am leaning towards this as well, well will have to take the unit out and send it in for testing.

Ok to update, seems the problem was caused by the hands free module.

Rather strange, but interesting. Is the hands free module built into the radio, or a loose standing module?

It is a module that connects into the main unit, also a kenwood product.
