Hi everyone

Does anyone know of a shop in Cape Town that sells converters for a USB keyboard into PS/2, and for PS/2 keyboards into USB?

I'm asking because I built 3 computers last week, and realised after they were done that they have no legacy ports. The stunning USB based Microsoft mice and keyboards we got are not appropriate for the students in our IT lab, nor for the youngsters out in our pre-primary area. That leaves me with the older keyboards, which are fine, but they are PS/2. So I need to get 3 to convert into USB.

As for the one that's the other way around, I'm taking one of the keyboards for myself, but I need to plug it into a KVM switch. I tried using a green adaptor that comes with some USB mice, but no luck. Apparently something to do with how the PS/2 ports were designed stops that from working.

I have seen the one type of adapter online at Prophecy, but I do want to try and get it locally here in Cape Town, which would be faster.

Anyone have any ideas?

Thanks :)

Hi - the converters are about R100 and you can get them from Matrix, Computer Mania, Incredable Connection ... they are very common.

Consider buying a USB keyboard and mouse set as they also come in at that price.

I recently bought one of these for a new computer which also do not have PS2 ports:

I also have a PS2 KVM switch, which is why I needed the above adapter.

My keyboard and mouse are both USB versions, while the KVM is a PS2 version, so I am using the small adapters (one green one for the mouse and a purple one for the keyboard) to connect the usb mouse/keyboard to the kvm. Here is a link to the small adapter:

PS: The BidOrBuy item includes shipping so I think R95 is a good price.
