Hi

I am interested in the Kia optima Ex , any advise on the service plan ,fuel consumption etc. Will highly appreciated

i was also very keen on it and took on for a test drive, and then was rather less keen.

I felt the ride was far too "spongy" for my liking. The car felt like it had too much body roll going around corners on the highway which I didnt like at all. I did drive the managers demo model, so maybe it was abused a bit, but i doubt it.

I have also seen that the fuel consumption is a bit higher than it should be for this class car, in the region of 10l/100km.

I also own a sportage, which kinda put me off the interior of the optima in a way, because they are almost 100% identical. the seats are comfortable and there is enough space in the car, but like i said, i didnt really like the drive much and that made up my mind to not go for the car.

it is a very good looking car though and stands out in the crowd

Curves on the R21? By the Airport?

The camber of the road should reduce the effect of body roll, unless the cars suspension is really shyte.

I was merely pointing to the fact that when you have 5 lanes empty in the middle of the night anything is really possible...

On a serious note, maybe the on/off ramps on highways?

I test drove it in Pinetown on the highway down to springfield (not the n3). I didnt go faster than 120km/h but still found the car to just feel to lose and spongy in the corners.

I found the Hyundai Accent to be very skittish on the road. Driving at 120km/h made me cringe at the thought of turning the wheel a bit too fast.

I fear that is common across most of the Korean brands... Hyundai cars are known to be "playful" on the road, regardless of speed. Kia is also going down that road, although the newer cars seems to be fixing that issue. Still, many folk seems to not mind this trait of the Koreans and the cars do sell well... I think one just has to evaluate the car as a whole, and not really compare it to the more expensive German boys...

Viewed on their own, the Korean cars offer some of the best value for money offerings in the market, but the trade-off is like mentioned above, a below standard driving experience. Yes, they are comfortable cars, both Hyundai and Kia offering sometimes better refinement....

Agreed but they just need to watch the price. The Cerato has gone up 1/3 price in 3 years!
