kia sorento

Have you driven one yet? I drove one about 2 years ago, and I found the 2.5 diesel quite weak...

why not the new model? or wait 6 months, and get a demo of the new model for around R250 000. the new model looks REALLY good.

Can only affort R200 000.
Drove the car.
Very happy with it.
New one R430 000.

Also drove the petrol 3,5l , very nice, but 6km/L in town.

I recently bought the new model Sorento. It is awesome. 2.2lit diesel wiht 146kw and 446nm. 6 speed super smooth auto box. Never driven a Kia before, but I must say, the Koreans are on the move. Love it.

We took a Sorento to Mozambique in december and it performed just as well as all the pajeros. Its comfortable (5 people in the car), climate control, decent 4x4 capabilities (it drove on the beach no prob)

I am not a "brand snob", so I will consider any make of car as long as I like it. The Koreans (Hyundai-Kia) have made a deliberate decision to build the best cars. They headhunted designers (eg Peter Schreyer - from VW/Audi) and engineers. Their engine technology is now considered amongst the best. About 3 weeks ago Mr Sippel wrote in the Rapport (motoring) that even Merc now goes to Hyunday to benchmark on the new Sonata.

I am going to love it when the big fancy brands get caught with their pants down...

The route was obviously not very challenging then :) Just kidding...

The new model should be less than R400k - website says +/- R370k. It is a nice looking vehicle... pitty the new model doesn't have low range :( The ground clearance is also less :( It seems like the new model is more of a soft roader.

Very happy with the sorento. Been driving horrible roads lately, people said it wont go their and I did. Good for potholes, soft ride.
Getting 11-12 km per liter aircon always on normal speeds.

i just test drove the new sorento this morning, and i think the term "wow" best describes how i feel about it.
the car is brilliant, absolutely nothing wrong with it, quieter than my a4 and my mother's ML350cdi.

definitely trading my a4 for this soon. the only thing i don't know about yet is after sales service at kia. do you guys have any experiences to share?

EDIT - some more impressions in case anyone's interested. btw my a4 is 2007 model, not latest ones
the car is super roomy. in my a4, no one can really sit behind me (comfortably) when i'm driving, but the sales guy was sitting nicely behind me and knees weren't touching my seat.
the only features that i could think of that don't come standard in the sorento are the sunroof and satnav. bluetooth too, i think, but not 100% sure.

performance is not bad for such a big car. i managed 160 quite easily and i could feel it had more to give. the in gear acceleration was nice, being a diesel and all.

i can't imagine any other suv beating the sorento at the price in SA, and imho it gives a lot of the premium SUVs (Q5, XC30 et al) a good run for their money.
just for fun, i took the Q5 2.0 TDI (base price R420k) and added all the features that come standard on the sorento and the price balooned to R510k. that's NINETY THOUSAND RANDS worth of extras. i lol'ed.

the Koreans are coming!

so no one owns a kia and would care to comment on their service levels? :(

Wait, wait. We own two new Kias - a Sorento and Cerato. Both brilliant. My experience with service so far is good. Live in the Cape, however. Bought from Kia Paarl - got good service. Also dealt wiht the Tygerberg multifranchise - not Kia dealer per se - but got very good service.
