So something changed since I learned this stuff, see this link for full details, but essentially the bytes to kilobytes to megabytes and so forth equation seems to have changed.

1000 bytes = 1 Kilobyte
1000 Kilobytes = 1 Megabyte and so forth

1024 bytes = 1 Kibibyte
1024 Kibibytes = 1 Mebibyte and so forth

Which standard are you using
Old: 1024 bytes = 1KB
New 1000 bytes = KB and 1024 Bytes = 1 KibiB

Hasn't changed, at least not recently. We've just been using it wrong and HDD manufacturers know that, which is why they sell you "2 Terabyte" drives and people are surprised that they only show up as 1.81 TB in Windows (which actually uses TiB)

Interesting. When did this change???

"My PC has 2 Gibibytes of RAM" sounds kak!

Should just start from scratch and erase all this confusion. Starting to seem like another Miles vs Kilometers thing.

I am all not doing the 1024 conversion as going from bits to bytes and back all the time is enough without having to add the 1024 conversion in to the mess!

Imagine the added 2 monre bits to a byte - decimal FTW
