See, there are plus sides to not being a multimillionaire. Poor child, I hope they find him alive and soon. Poor parents. :( I don't know what I will ever do if my son was kidnapped - I don't think I would survive it. I have spoken to a couple of parents and we agree that it is easier for a parent to accept that his child has died than not knowing where he is, is he getting enough to eat, whether or not he is being abused, is he cold etc . God forbid something like this ever happens to my child, I truly think I'd go insane.

Although I am fairly certain that one can ascertain that this child was kidnapped for a ransom you do have to worry about the child trafficking that is purportedly going to be rife during the SWC. It is scary to think about it. I am planning on buying one of those "child leashes" (for want of a better word) & not taking him out much at all. Hopefully it is just a rumour. But rather safe than sorry in my books.

Magnate's son kidnapped in Jhb

André Damons, Beeld
Johannesburg - The 5-year-old son of a rich Angolan mining magnate was kidnapped on Sunday by four men from his playschool at a church in Troyeville, Johannesburg.

No ransom demand was issued on Monday for the release of the boy named Amos Amoes, chief executive of D & K Management Consultants, Declan Condon, said on Monday.

Amos' parents, Faustino and Imaoulada Amoes, asked Condon's company to help get their son back.

They are prepared to pay a ransom.

Condon said the four men arrived at the Maná church in Clarence Street, Troyeville, at about 09:00.

They split up into two groups. Two of them went straight for Amos, where he was playing with about 15 other children - including his brother, Faustino, 9, and two sisters, Susanna, 16, and Africa, 14 - at the church's playschool.

Meanwhile, the other two men held the congregation at gunpoint.

Parents away on business

Apparently the Amoes family have been living in South Africa for a number of years. It appears the couple were in Angola for a two-month business trip and had planned to fly back to South Africa on Monday.

While their parents were away, the children stayed in their large family home in Bedfordview with their 60-year-old aunt and a South African nanny. They went to church alone in a taxi cab while the family's chauffer stayed at home.

Imaoulada reportedly called the children on Saturday to tell them they should go to church, since they hadn't been for a while.

"His (Amos') parents have given me the mandate to get him back. I'll meet them (the suspected kidnappers) any time, any place," Condon said.

He suspects that Amos was kidnapped because of his parents' wealth.

"I suspect the kidnappers know his parents and are aware that they have money. The kidnap was well planned," said Condon.
