Kidney stones advice

Thread Necro:

I just passed my third Kidney Stone for the year... :p

I really got my mileage out of my hospital plan this year!

What if I'm drinking copious quantities of semi-good whiskey and water. Does that amount to the same treatment as beer?

It's not going to prevent them if they are forming from other stuff in your diet, dude! :D
You need to reduce your uric acid and avoid foods that are high in Oxylate.

I got kidney stones for the first time in my life 2 weeks ago. I didn't know what the pain was and ended up in the ER of the hospital. Spent 2 hours on a drip and the pain passed. Ended up back in hospital 2 days later for 2 full days. I was released from hospital on my birthday. I have genetically high uric acid, so now I'm on chronic meds (Puricos) to manage it. :(

Yeah, I've had them 5 times now.... First time I also didn't stay in hospital.
First time I was 27 - now I'm 48.
But every time since I've stayed in hospital for 24 to 48 hours.
Better to stay over night.

Got double kidney stones (one in each kidney) about 3 years back. Was hospitalised and had scans done. They eventually passed. That day I understood why people get addicted to Morphine. Needless to say, since then I watch my hydration very, very carefully.

Same here. I now drink a minimum of 2 liters of clean water together with other fluids during the day. When my urine started going pink I got a bit worried and that's when the doc admitted me to hospital.

It is a pain and discomfort I wouldn't wish on my worst enemy... Or wait, I would wish it on him. Best revenge ever.

Last time i had stones , they caused a slight urinary blockage, had to go under while they went up the urethra to deal with them.

Then just to put the proverbial cherry on the cake I had to have a stent in for a week with a small bit of string dangling out the tip of my ....., which one week later the Doc used to yank out the stent

Now i religiously drink a glass of Apple cider vinegar every 7 - 10 days, not going through all that again.:(

Can't remember exactly, haven't battled/ heard from someone having this in a while, have a very hot bath and drink coke, might be beer. I know beer is good for preventing kidney stones, I'll never suffer from that.

@OP if the doctor says it isn't kidney stones why don't you believe him?

My line manager had a kidney stone earlier this year, almost passed out from the pain on his way to work. Goes straight to hospital, gets given medication, passes the stone and then came straight back to work at around 12. :wtf:
