Kids 'laugh' at rape victim

Johannesburg - A 16-year-old accused of raping a teenage girl appeared in the Germiston Magistrate's Court on Monday, said Gauteng police.

The boy and a friend were said to have raped the 13-year-old girl in the bushes on Friday, said Captain Steady Nawa.

"The mother of the victim alleges that she saw a group of children laughing at her daughter."

When she asked the children why they were making fun of her, they said her daughter had been seen having sex in the bushes with the two boys.

The mother confronted her daughter who said she was returning from a friend's house, where she had gone to get a school book, when the teenagers forced her into the bushes.

"They undressed her and took turns raping her," said Nawa. Both of her alleged attackers were known to her.

The 16-year-old who appeared in court on Monday was arrested at midnight on Friday. The other boy escaped police and is still at large.
