Kids : Lunchboxes and Water Bottles

Generally those bottled waters are supposed to be a form of mineral water, supposed to be :).

Lies, filthy lies.

All tastes like boiled tap water..and then somehow there is the Nestlé variety which manages to be worse than tap water.

Chemical leeching and bacterial growth is a thing...

Ag that goes both for and against expensive bottles. Your metal bottle is full of bacteria - way more than a new plastic one. Every noticed a slight slipperiness on the inside of a bottle? That's biofilm, basically bacterial mucous. But who cares. 99.95% of bacteria are fine and the other 0.05% are not in your tap water.

You could go copper lined I suppose.

Residues go both ways too, probably worse on new metal. As for chemical leeching if it doesn't dissolve in your lifetime then it's not leeching anything appreciable in your lifetime either.

Local?

I do have some cordial in the cupboard at all times which I just add in very low dosages because obviously there's a **** load of sugar in them as well.

When I'm being kak fancy I add some lime or lemon juice.
Most of those are ones I’ve collected from UK/US but Tony Ferguson does a range of them locally. Just a few drops. Zero sugar.

It's not just you. FWIW: my kids are kak fancy and 'need' Hydroflasks and Stanleys and schit
the stanley fad hit my kid's school as well, thank fahk they don't actually look at the brand, just the design, plenty of el-cheapo "Stanley" cups available at the local China town that will last until the next fad hits at least

I thought Stanley was a very American thing? It's not a trend that I've seen here, didn't even know you could buy them in SA.
I've seen the trend for sure, very few seem to be buying the original brand though, so far I've only seen the real thing at Sportsman's Warehouse, China town and Takealot etc have many fakes that work just as well

We use these for my kids and they work really well. No leaking and keeps water cold all day if you add some ice. Much cheaper than some of the name brands

I buy them each one of their choosing in December and then if they lose it or it breaks they get a margarine tub and a buddy coke bottle for the rest of the year.

100% :-P if they buy one with their own allowance than it's fine ;-)

I too have fallen into the trap of buying these relatively expensive water bottles for the kiddo. Woolies stainless steel insulated ones are good, but the mouth piece got chewed up, so now we're trying one from Yokico (https://yokico.co.za/collections/bo...-marley-swirl-dbl-wall-stainless-steel-bottle) - mostly because kid liked the design. Let's see how it goes on his first day of big school tomorrow!

I recall when I was a kid I had a cheap plastic bright green lunch box with nasty plastic juice bottle that went inside it. Lasted just about my entire schooling career.

Jeez don't your kids play. My kids haven't taken lunch boxes or water bottles to school since they passed grade 3. There is water in the taps at school.

This is what happens when you've spent all money on iphones instead of lunches for your kids.
Now they are expected to live off water

Ah, water.. the most nutritious and filling of food for growing children and minds, helping them focus on their school work and not on their hunger pains...

But at least they have a 2016 iPhone SE

We bought lunchboxes from Checkers that have lasted over two years now, two different types..

Only water bottles that have lasted, however, have been stainless ones from Woolies, Mana brand or something.. big lid that comes off to allow ice to be added and vacuum insulated too.. now these come with prints to appeal to the kiddos, so the prints do get scratched and scraped over the year, but they continue to work, no leaks etc..
These are fantastic.

Switched to paper bags last year after a decade of using Systema. Best move ever. No more cleaning mouldy forgotten lunch boxes, no more scouring lost and found, and it works out cheaper.

Kids love their "American" styled lunch boxes. We buy them each four 500ml bottled waters for the month that they refill each day. By end of month, they are normally down to the last bottle.

Each Sunday we prepare their lunch bags for the week with "non-perishable" snacks, and then just drop the fruit in the evening before. Saves a huge amount of time and planning as some days the kids have sport so we add more food.

Then if the kids are not hungry, they give remaining food in bag to friends (lot's of needy kids at their school) or the security guards.

This thread was never about woke or finding they/them lunchboxes.. it was started to find decent lunchboxes that would last at least through out the school year..

And yes, I always took a lunchbox to school, because I preferred to not have to be distracted by hunger pains when I was supposed to be focusing on my school work.. water bottle, didn't phase me, the taps had water.. point is, I always had something to eat and didn't rely on water only for sustenance, like you are making your kids do...
