Kill Flash: Facebook

For once, Apple got it right.

They just got it right for the low market share they had at the time, thus putting them further away from a standardised computing experience.

HTML5 is better in every way and people can adapt or fade in to oblivion.

Hopefully Chrome does the same thing soon. That will drastically accelerate the death of Flash.

Something else has already drastically accelerated the death of Chrome

And what's that? Last I checked, Chrome was the best and most popular browser.

It has lost some followers due to it's sucking of RAM like it's a AAA game or something where it ends up slowing down the whole PC

Chrome does use a lot of RAM for a browser, but it's never slowed my PC down or bothered me. As Google likes to say, unused RAM is wasted RAM.

Perhaps some people just run too many addons? Firefox got bloated as hell for me like that back in the day.

So no more SARS eFiling either? The eFiling website uses Flash for all the forms you fill.

It won't be impossible to change away from Flash to something else. Flash is not the only way to do what eFiling does.

Flash was often held up as one of the differentiating factors between iOS and Android. But the performance problems, excessive power consumption only served to make Android look bad. While Apple called it correctly, once Android gets rid of Flash support it will actually be removing a millstone from around its neck.

Thats exactly what I thought when reading the headline.:D

Yeah I'm a huge Opera fan but since they started using the Chrome engine they have the same issue, its a massive RAM hog and slows my entire PC down to a crawl.Google needs to fix this ASAP.

As far as I know android doesn't support flash for a while now.

Sure it isn't. But how long do you think it will take SARS to make the necessary changes?

This is SARS we're talking about, the money collector & a very efficient one at that, they will sort this out in no time.

Almost a decade later?

As someone said, he just inconvenienced many people

That isn't really true

a) Apple wasn't the only one against Flash. M/S were just as anti.
b) Apple didn't ban Flash across the board. Just on mobile
c) Others started to follow (more gently soon after). Flash for mobile was dumped by others over time.

So I ask the question
IF Apple hadn't been as vehement would Flash have lived longer?
