I just started up my computer to be greeted with:

Windows - Delayed write failed

Windows was unable to save all the data for the file C:\WINDOWS. The data has been lost. This error may be caused by a failure of your computer hardware or network connection. Please try to save this file elseware.

Lol well it looks as if it's funeral time for my hard-drive.

Ok now I got the same error for multiple other directories. My mate just told me that the reason for this is because I have a SATA drive and Windows sees it as an external which is why it causes the data errors. This makes sense because my taskbar forever has the option for me to remove my C: drive as it is seen as such.

Problem is, when I enter my BIOS menu, I can't find the option to disable this. I have an Asus m2npv-mx motherboard.

What drive models?

Nope. Nvidia 7300. I also tried enabling the RAID option but then it doesn't detect the HD. I get an option to set arrays by pressing F10 but I don't really wanna mess around with that option.

I switched off the RAID and restarted and now my pc is idle on the windows desktop... awaiting another spontaneous failure. sigh

Best is to switch off. Get another or new drive and transfer any important data. It will get worse the longer you use it, damaging more files. Apparently it could also be driver failure or registry settings.

I don't want to switch it off lest it doesn't come back on. Don't have an external at the moment nor do I have money for a new one right now. It must persevere.

Things to try:

Turn off command queueing on the SATA controller via device manager

Turn of delayed writing.

Check the setting and make it 0 if it was a 1 (have to reboot)
Hi, Your best option is to start in Safe mode and then run RegEdit.

You'll find the LargeSystemCache setting in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session
Manager\Memory Management.

Let me know if it was set to 1. Chance are that some files are already corrupted. Don't know if the computer will work flawlessly from now.

Good luck!

Thanks. I will try checking the registry in safe mode next time the pc fails (will leave it be for now). Do you know how to turn off delay writing? I think that would be key to solving the problem. Then I can safely restore all the corrupt/missing files in the windows directory.

My Computer>Right click drive+properties>Hardware+select disk>properties>Policies

Or

Control panel>Admin Tools>Computer management>Right click drive+properties>Hardware+select disk>properties>Policies

Just an update:

LargeSystemCache was set at 0.
There are 0 objects in my Administrative tools folder in control panel. They must have disappeared.
