So I picked up everything needed for this experience on Saturday from BT Games in Northgate. Move starter pack, navigation controller, sharpshooter, KZ3. Total was R2200 odd.
I don't play FPS games on consoles because I've always found aiming with those joysticks on the controllers unfsckencontrollable. Mouse and keyb has always been the way to go for me. But with the reviews the sharpshooter was getting and being a bit flush with the green at the time (not anymore), I decided to go for it.
Setting up the move is pretty straight forward and takes only a few mins. In the game, movement was quick to get used to - moving around with the navigation controller is very similar to moving in Wii games with the nunchuck. Aiming to shoot is much easier than those damn joystick controls!
Where I suck / get p1ssed off is:
1) aiming the view with the gun - more play time will solve this I think
2) I frequently found myself aiming the gun off the screen (usually to the right) to center the crosshairs in the game. Aiming the gun past the left edge of the screen kinda re-centers it but not perfectly. Not quite sure what to tune in the move config ...
3) The beginning of the game takes you through some basics at the shooting range. The last exercise I needed help with because I had to a) press-and-hold the move button and then b) press-and-hold the navigation trigger and then c) somehow pull the trigger. Does Sony know that people only have 2 arms?! HTF are you supposed to do this? Eventually I got the wife to come pull the trigger for me just so I could progress past the range.
The I'm-carrying-a-gun aspect to playing an FPS was cool! Reloading by cocking the gun is cool!
At this point, I'm a bit uncertain whether this is gonna work or not. It's cool enough to make me try get more used to it, but if I can't get the calibration right I think it may end up gathering dust.
