I'm in the process of purchasing a Kindle book (To run on PC, not Kindle) and notice a substantial difference in price between the two sites, $30/£17 = approx R212/R192. For one book the savings is obviously minimal but over the long term it could make quite a difference, depending on exchange rates. Is there any reason why I should not buy from the UK site?

the Amazon UK sites says that the UK Kindle site is only for UK customers

That's correct. As I understand it the only way you can buy books from Amazon UK if you are in SA is by using a UK proxy, which is a pain. And ebook sites constantly complain about higher pricing on the UK site anyhow, so frankly I wouldn't bother.
