So just picked up my Kindle Paperwhite 2015 today.

Any tips and tricks that I should know.

Loving the screen. So much easier on the eyes than an LCD screen.

Buy books and enjoy.

If you have not bought a cover, I can recommend the Kindle leather one. Expensive but its so nice. Gives an awesome feel to the Kindle and feels great to hold.

The wife has the Kindle (I've got the Kobo) and we leave the light on all the time as the time between charges is long enough not to worry about the light killing the battery.

Go to bookbub.com and keep an eye on the daily emails I have scored quite a few good reads for free or VERY cheap. They have a selection for Amazon so you will get notified of promotions on books you like.

Get Calibre to manage your ebooks. It converts between all the major file formats and works with pretty much all ebook devices. Best ebook software out there IMO.

You won't (or rarely) find the heavy-hitters in the list. OTOH I have found a number of authors that I now follow.

And, if you don't like the book, it's very little pain to delete a book that was free to start with :)

So I've only been reading on my kindle for over a day now, but prefer it to book reading already. Just so much easier. No needing to hold he pages open, progress indicators, easier to read at night.

Yeah I installed Calibre last night. Had to because a book I wanted to buy was "not available in my country due to copyright reasons".

So naturally I torrented it and used Calibre to get it on my Kindle. Works beautifully.

I seem Kindle has an email to Kindle functionality which seems useful.

Anyone here use Good Reads?

And how about Kindle Unlimited?

I read mostly non-fiction, so not sure if it's for me.

Forgot to mention I picked up the leather case with the magnetic clip. Loving the feel of it.

Thanks for this tip. I realize with the Rand the way it is, I need to cut back on my Amazon orders.....

I looked into Kindle Unlimited and it was not going to work for me. I either read a lot or hardly read at all. We buy our books between Kindle & Kobo store and then use Calibre.

Even though I've only had it a few days now, I can't see myself ever going back to normal books.

Kindle just brings so much to the reading experience.

Pretty much.

I've read exactly 2 normal books since I got my Kindle a couple of years back. One was a South African self published book about a Recce operator, and the other an illustrated novel, so wouldn't have worked as an eBook.

Just the bookmarking feature alone makes it so easy to go back and re-read difficult concepts. Nevermind the dictionary, browser, not needing to hold a book open when trying to read on a flat surface etc...

how is the kindle paperwhite in direct heat and sun?

If you read it outside in the sun can you see the screen ok and will the device handle the heat ok?

Haven't tested it yet, but the screen is high contrast e-ink, so shouldn't be an issue at all. Remember e-ink is way better than LCD for reading. Can test tomorrow though.
