It used to be very easy to "borrow" books but it looks like those sites are no more. Someone also mentioned Calibre in a precious post, it is a must have.
Bought my wife one and she was crazy about books, now she loves her Kindle.
I download her books from torrent sites:whistle:
Regarding service, Amazon are miles ahead of anything in SA. My first Kindle arrived and it didn't want to switch on. I contacted Amazon support and they sent a replacement and paid for the broken one to be sent back.
A year or so after getting it, my dad was using it, fell asleep and promptly rolled over it, destroying the screen. Amazon replaced the complete unit for me, no charge.
I have only had good experiences with Amazon, so I would recommend buying from them.
You likely bought the advert supported version or are using the wrong region.I've purchased two Paperwhite's this year - one for me and one for my sisters 40th birthday. But both from takealot as Amazon says it doesn't deliver here?
Anyway, the Paperwhite is simply awesome. And the backlight is a major contributing factor for me - my old kindle had a light in the bookcover that wasn't very good. Reading at bedtime has never been easier than with a paperwhite.
Yea look, it's convenient to walk into a shop and buy but my experiences both with buying and after sales when it comes to Amazon have always been stellar.
Really worth the 2 to 4 day wait for delivery![]()
I bought a kindle in 2008
I am on my 4th kindle from that 1 purchase.
Lol, May have my date wrong, I'll check my Amazon purchases.Interesting, how did you get to purchase it in 2008? The Kindle 2 was released in 2009 and was the first Kindle available for purchase in SA. I got mine in 2010.

Only have back to 2011 and that has a replacement Kindle.
The operative word "replacement".

I have no idea but was a bitch to get Amazon to the right sales place for mine and 3 others I helped people buyNope - not the advert one (the special offers...bleh). And how does using the wrong region make any difference when you are shipping to the same location i.e. South Africa?
