Good Morning All.

I dislocated my left knee 17 days ago at indoor footy. Foot just got stuck on the turf and my knee popped out, ref popped it back in. Went to ER, did scan and no tear, just a sprained ligament. I was on crutches and a knee brace. Got rid of the crutches first, and then left the knee brace off since Saturday that just passed. I am able to walk , and only every now and then i limp in one of my strides. There is still a little bit of swelling on the outside of my knee. I am struggling to fully bend my knee though which is bugging me, it almost feels like my thigh is going to go into a spasm. I have tried some of the exercises i found on the net but struggle with them as it involves bending my knee which i just cant. Any suggestions from you guys or perhaps someone is going through the same thing? Please help as no football as put me in a very dark space

That can easily take up to 6 weeks to heal.

Go see a doctor
They will likely say:
Rest the leg where possible. Walk normally and no running or strenuous excercise allowed.

Watch some Bafoona Bafoona games on catchup. That will make you laugh.
Good luck with the healing. All I can recommend is ice. Lots of it. All the time.
Ice this late will not help with the healing.

Ice was important the first few hours after getting injured.

Well don't take any chances go see a orthopedic specialist you might need to get a referral from your house doctor.I was stupid enough to let some idiot doctor butcher me at awryp, knee ligament stretched 3 surgeries and infection later I got a referral to little company of mary.Turns out back ligament tore off which allowed the front ligament to appear lax, 3 unnecessarily operations, repaired the back ligament and due to another stuff up, not discovered, ligament holding part of my calf muscle in place also tore and resulted in more strain on the ligaments, which results in me regularly twisting my ankle, weak leg and having to likely revisit a total knee replacement soonish.

To put it in Afrikaans hard neer gebliksem n' hele paar keer. So definitely have it checked out, by a proper specialist, worse comes to worse you might be a couple of 100 poorer but you had a proper check up.

I left mine to heal on its own. Also twisted it in a football game. That was 20 years ago. It's still giving me trouble, dislocating occasionally if I twist it wrong.

Go to a physio.

Yeah, don't come ask here on a tech forum, where perhaps someone who has had this misfortune can share his or her experiences.

Hows that going to help him without having his ailment medically diagnosed. Its like googling why you have a cough and coming to the conclusion that you have cancer.

All the people that have had similar injuries are telling him to go to a doctor

Ok. Everyone take note. In future, if you have any medical query, rather don't come here, go straight to a doctor.

Sue the ref. Relocating a dislocated joint is dangerous and should not be done without proper assessment.
See a doctor too

Sorry guys, as i have been to doctor and all that i just wanted to find out from guys who have suffered the same thing about their experience and find things that possibly aided in recovery. Needless to say Physio is the next step which i have booked for. As for the ref concern, she was a qualified medic and hence acted correctly. Thanks once again guys, have a good weekend and dont do anything silly :)

Glad she was able to do x-rays on the field to ensure there were no structures to be trapped/pinched by the relocation...

The Doctor that saw me that night, said it was the right decision. I understand your point aswell

Walk with a straight foot. Heel down first. Exercise the knee to avoid stiffness.
