knee replacement operations

Hi All
Please tell me what the general costs are for such an operation. I received a quote over the weekend and it was totally shocking. Also need to know how long is the waiting list for such operations at the Jhb State Hospitals. I was told its already at 2023. Unbelievable!!!!! Thank you for your assistance.

They are not cheap as far as I know

I had a ligament reconstruction on my right knee about 6 years ago (keyhole surgery, 1 night in the hospital) and that was around R25k back then. So for a full knee replacement now I'd guess at least R80k to R100k.

Personally, I think they should rather be looking at exoskeleton solutions rather than knee replacement. I know of several people for whom the knee replacement went very badly, including my uncle who had to have his whole leg amputated.

Last quote I received was around R195k, which also included, some time in hospital (can't remember how many days) and 6 weeks of physical / physiotherapy. This was around 2013/2014.

I've had 4 different specialists advise me to wait until I am at least in my late 40s to go for the op. You apparently never fully recover from it.
