In general I do not rate SA parliament highly. There is no real debate, nor articulation of positions. Seems the name of the game is to moan as loudly as you can, if you do not agree. If that does not work, scream...I like Mazibuko, but in all fairness, she is a bit out of her depth. There is an art of being a an effective parliamentarian, more so being a leader in the house.... look at the greats, Churchill, Thatcher, Ted Kennedy. Their skills were honed as backbenches, or in the lower house, they learned from peers, the institution and legends in the chambers. I look at how the DA caucus articulates their message in the chamber....and wonder, who writes these speeches...bland, attack attack attack, no savvy, no news making brilliance...you want parliament to be news worthy, you want it to be relevant,...for now, its just a real bore

Cape Town - The DA’s parliamentary leader Lindiwe Mazibuko came under attack this week by MPs who labelled her as arrogant and autocratic.

Some former key lobbyists also conceded that she could be removed after next year’s general elections, while senior party members described her as having poor leadership and management skills, reported the Sunday Independent.

After a bruising contest in which she went head to head with veteran DA MP Athol Trollip for the position, Mazibuko now faces serious challenges from inside her own party, in addition to the regular fire she comes under from the ANC.

Senior DA MPs told the newspaper that many of them would not be re-applying for their positions when the fifth democratic Parliament is formed after next year’s polls because they felt sidelined by the party leadership.

"She's very young, she's not very self-assured or very confident of herself, and so these are a bad mix of ingredients because everyone else becomes unsure and unstable," one senior MP said on condition of anonymity.

The bruising defeat of Trollip, credited in part to the public endorsement of Mazibuko by party leader Helen Zille, caused big divisions in the party, with persistent rumours of intimidation of supporters of Trollip.
This week, disgruntled members again complained about Zille’s involvement in the leadership race, saying her conduct was inappropriate.

There is no way the DA party leadership will remove her IMO, she is far too important from a campaign point of view. So I think the DA MPs are just gonna have to live with her short comings. She is young, what did they expect in the first place?

Agreed.

But I never would have said one of her shortcomings was arrogance based on what I've seen of her.

Have to agree....She is a bit too green....but guess with time, and experience, she may become one of those greats, where MPs rush into the house, to see her deliver a speech or take part in a debate....

Is there a black senior DA leader who has never had knives out for them? Maimane faced the same thing towards conference the last time, the DA youth leader the same.
