What is this menu and what do I need to make it work?

Clicking it says 'No PVR clients have started up yet '

You need to set up one of the PVR addons as all of them are disabled by default.
Then you connect your DVB(T2) tv tuner to your Android box or PC and if it has drivers, you'll be able to set it up.

I am all fingers when it comes to IT - a complete ignoramus. Can someone with experience please recommend which Kodi box to buy and what in addition is needed for an installation? I would also greatly appreciate a contact number to call as I will f it up, no question. I have a Samsung Smart TV and will have Vumatel 20/20 fibre from Thursday. Please can someone help a poor old man?

Do you have a Laptop or old pc lying around the house with an HDMI port.

Pc's/laptops will make the best streaming option, they take away the limitations of most of these boxes. Also which Samsung smart TV do you have, you can install Kodi on a android smart TV.

The old laptop/pc also chews a lot more power than a good media centre box. Most decent small scale media centre's pull between 3 and 7W whereas a pc and laptop are WAY above that in power consumption. They are also bulky and noisy.

The Nvidia shield is the most powerful and costly of the bunch.
Raspberry Pi 3 is a solid option if you're just going to run OSMC (it's really easy to install and get running)

I settled on a locally manufactured MediaBox (mediabox.co.za) streamer because it runs android and does Netflix, Showmax, Google Play, Amazon Web Services and even Kodi. I caught it on special for R1699 from Loot.
Actually it's still there for R1699. It's R1999 from the manufacturers website.

I've not had a single problem with it, even though navigation is not always that intuitive.

Say what? How do I find out which OS my Samsung is running. My Google skills are failing me. It's a PS51D550.

Look at the MyGica ATV582 android media players from Makro (or other suppliers). Works very well.

That's a pretty good one most of them can't do Showmax

I'm just trying to save the guy some money, you don't have to have an media player. I had an old pc lying around, stuck in a fanless GPU and bought a trackpad keyboard. So its pretty quiet

Total cost was like R600 and its also great for streaming DSTV, Sport and quick changing between apps/multiple apps.

You don't need anything fancy you could just plug your work laptop into your TV at night and have the most powerful TV streamer device out there.
