Koeberg rotor returns to service
May 17, 2006, 20:15
Unit One at Koeberg Power Station in the Western Cape has been returned to service. The generator was damaged last December after a bolt damaged the rotor. A replacement rotor was obtained from France.
Eskom says power levels will continue to be increased and Unit One is expected to be operating at full power within the fourth week of May. Koeberg Unit two will be shut down on May 22 for refuelling and maintenance.
The outage will take place through the rest of May, June and most of July. A shortfall of up to 400 megawatts may be experienced in the Western Cape during this period. - Sapa
