Good news for Eskom's Koeberg nuclear power station

Eskom announced on Friday that Koeberg Unit 1’s steam generators had been replaced and should be synchronised to the grid by the end of October 2023.

“Over the past few days, many residents close to Koeberg power station might have noticed steam rising from the power station on some occasions,” the power utility said.

And then they turn off Unit 2 for the same maintenance...so it will be back to square one.
I'm more just amazed it's not 2 years behind schedule and R500 billion over budget.

ANC clearly very scared of losing the election.

I have never seen even this mediocre level of delivery from anything to do with government. I'm used to nothing but colossal failure.

Really, they did see that. My mother tells me she's seen f--- all. Also if there's smoke, there's fire.
And so what even if they're synchronized, it will all fail in a week.

Indeed...that article really puts a positive spin on the long time it took...but we all know that the delays were caused by incredible incompetence.

Well, it is behind schedule. Even their last schedule of 3rd November is being pushed back to 13th November.

I know. That's why I called their performance "mediocre".

I realise that compared to the rest of the world it's still pathetic, but compared to the sort of gutter-scraping performances we're used to seeing from Eskom this is incredible.

Oh 100%, but in my mind the scale of the incompetence at Eskom that I'm used to should have meant delays on such a scale that the job basically never got done.

I know it's sad that the bar is just so low now that even them only being a couple of months delayed is something we see as a miracle... but that's where we are now.

Actually, the Koeberg plants aren't like the coal-placed plants - they're very rarely off for unscheduled maintenance.
