Should actually save this for FBF, but oh well:
Metal Gear Solid creator Hideo Kojima has told Eurogamer that he looks forward to a day when people stop asking him whether MGS4 is coming out on Xbox 360.

"I've been doing a lot of interviews and stage shows, and half the questions are like 'Will MGS4 be coming out on 360 or other formats?', and in the near future I hope they'll ask me about Metal Gear, about us, about our future projects, and will stop caring about the hardware," Kojima told Eurogamer in an interview published today.

Pressed on MGS4's exclusivity and the possibility of an Xbox 360 port, Kojima reiterated that the PS3 had been chosen because he believed that the series' success had been entwined with PlayStation's, and admitted that "because MGS4 was optimised for the PS3 it is probably not possible".

"But, you know, what kind of disturbs me sometimes, because a lot of people ask me about this PS3/360 question, is that it's not about the hardware - I want people to look at the game itself. Sometimes I even feel like it should be on a PC so that people don't ask me about hardware and platforms," he said.

Asked whether he would develop multiplatform games in future, Kojima said: "If we're talking about the future - not MGS4, but my future titles, if we're referring to that - if the hardware technology rises then obviously, you know, it won't be based on the hardware anymore. Probably I will first create the software and then, um, it's a strange word to say, but port to other hardware if that technological ability rises in all areas."

It's an approach that's already reaping rewards for others, including fellow Japanese developer Capcom, whose teams are known to develop games using an engine running on the PC platform, which can then be ported to PS3 and 360 - Resident Evil 5 being the latest example.
That wasn't a "NO", Mr. Kojima :p

Well, lets see what happens!
I played the game recently and it is good and a worthy title of MGS but it bothered me that the actual game time is minimal.

With my hands-on experience, I did think that there is no reason why it cant be done on the 360. Yes, maybe 1 DVD is a bit optimistic, so at most 2/3.

:D

I dont think MGS4 will go to the 360 but future titles will.

Me too, but stranger things have happened. I would like to know has MGS4 made a decent profit for Kojima and co? If not, then keeping this as a PS3 exclusive does not make business sense IMHO.

I think if you port this to the XBox you will have a steady stream of customers. So if they have not made a good profit on the PS3 then maybe (that's a big maybe BTW) we could just see this on the XBox.

If that ever happens one can only imagine the look on Sony fanbois faces the world over. :D

I had an evil thought. You know those disc swap "jokes" in MGS4, what if they're not jokes... what if they are actually there in the DVD build and the joke is just there to stitch up the PS3 version ;)

Konami would have a screw loose if they didn't do something X-platform. MGS4 has sold about 4million copies at an expense of $100 million to produce. GTA sold double that and Gears sold around 6 million copies at a production cost of only $10 million.

Konami have got to be Jonesing for some of that.

thats more a stupid thought than an evil one really...

anyways, kojimas response about focusing on the game rather than the hardware is a really good point. but i guess the jostle among rivalry, exclusivity and platforms will never end i suppose.

A bit harsh...
Anyway, who cares the game is not that great, the videos are absolutely piece of art - especially Raiden fighting against Vamp.
It is what you come to expect from Hideo though.

However ( imho) it is more of an interactive movie experience than a game.;)

Consider the story around Bioshock for PS3. The devs denied outright that it was coming and lo and behold its almost here.

Quite right. It's not a one horse race just yet...so to deny the console with the second largest install base is to lose out on mega bucks as far as I'm concerned. Hell...maybe they aren't in it for the profit, lol

FORGET ABOUT IT..WOULD TAKE THEM A LOOOOONNNNNGGG TIME NOW TO DO THE CONVERSION IF THEY DIDNT PLAN IT FROM THE START.

Hmmm not if it was an option from day 1! ;)
Hideo has a good enough business head on his shoulders to realise that the install base of the ps3 might not be enough to cover his dev costs.

If they did it..we would of heard about it by now surely?
See my previous post. As with Bioshock the devs denied it until their faces were blue, yet Bioshock is indeed making an appearance on the PS3.

Other than porting existing code to the MS platform all that it would require would be a plan to get all of the BD content onto 3 or so DVDs (easy enough).

Bioshock devs always stated Bioshock would be exclusive first, then go multiplatform.

The official statement from the release:

"2K Games confirmed that BioShock, a first person shooter that will revolutionize the genre and forever change the expectations of gamers, will be released exclusively on Xbox 360 and Microsoft Windows next spring."

Given the wording of that statement, it's totally possible that the game will make it to PS3 sometime after "next spring," but we imagine we won't hear specific details on that for quite some time.

Oh really?

I don't see you shooting your mouth of about FF13 now do I?

Kojima's comments are actually more an admission of guilt that staying exclusive was a stupid idea, and that he's future projects will be platform agnostic.

Oh like Final Fantasy 13 you mean. ;)

They only could do multi-platform because they started using the unreal 3 engine :)
But then again lots of games have had it happen so who really knows?

They're not using UT for FF13, that's for Last remnant, FF13, and I think infinite undiscovery are using their "Crystal Engine" or something like that, it's an in house engine.

That is right!
Last Remnant is the only one using the UE, FF13 is using their in-house Crystal Engine. I asm not sure about Infinity Undiscovery though, but it is NOT the UE. :p

Cool, so if they are not using the Unreal 3 engine for this game, then this multiplat might look good on the PS3.
