I'm trying to setup the one touch scanning feature on this network printer.

It scans fine if I enter the network information manually for a once-off scan job.

But if I want to register a profile the scanner gives me an error code.

A folder is already shared in the root of a computer to which I want to scan.

Now just to for the sake of preserving my sanity let's start at the very beginning. Please look at this pic and tell me what the hell must I enter in these fields???

Host Address:
File path:
User ID:
Password:

I have a simple LAN setup with straight forward 172.16.x.x range. Nothing fancy or complex.

The file path is also not an issue.

What is the User ID? ... They don't ask for a user ID when I enter the network information (like IP and network path etc.) for a once-off scan.

So much to say I forgot some things.

C250
Windows 7

I'm trying to setup the SMB destination.

I'm not sure if and why I should set up FTP destination with the FTP utility.

If you are scanning to a win7 machine good luck. If you are scanning with a rip on the copier even better luck.
What you have to do is make sure the folder you are scanning to is a shared folder. We created a new user "scan" with it's own password. Then gave scan user sharing rights plus security permissions on that folder. Then on that screen click scan again and then click new registration and choose smb radio button. Then fill in the details on the screen, we use fixed ip addresses which helps. Also having the scan user and password was the trick.
If there is a rip attached then good luck with that. We have a new colour machine with RIP coming shortly and will insist that it scans to out win7 machines.

Well, depending on BizHub machine some are really screwed… Yours should support SMB.
I will be vague now, since I do not have a Bizhub near me… and I’m not being in your IT environment.
SMB sometimes really have issues with machines OS, OS users and AD (Active Directory), again depending on machine.

SCAN TO SMB (Steps according to your screenshot):

1. Create and configure shared folder on your destination drive
2. In Bizhub Web Connection
3. Click on the SCAN tab
4. Click on “New Registration” and choose SMB
5. Enter in the Name and select the Index
6. Type in the IP Address of the computer as the ‘Host Address’ or “Computer Name” - This must be UPPER CASE.
7. Type in the SHARE NAME of the shared folder
8. Type in the User Name and Password (according to WIN USER) - should errors occur, create a dedicated (new) Win user to use SMB scan
9. Click Apply and then OK

Some Bizhub machines are really not allowing things as should be…

I have figured it out.

When they ask for the File path it should not be the whole thing ... \\computername\folder

It should only be \folder.
