Hi guys,

Need some help. My kreepy krauly is not sucking up the fine dirt on the bottom of the pool. It just ends up disturbing the settled dirt and making the water cloudy. The dirt settles again, and the cycle starts again when the krauly starts again.

Any suggestions to solve this problem?
Thanks

That sucks.

I'd start with making sure you're getting decent suction (is the filter properly backwashed and clean, pump ok, pump leaftrap lid properly sealed?), that the diaphragm in the cleaner is in good nick, and that the pipes aren't split and sucking water.

I replaced the diaphragm in my cleaner just a week ago. R85 at the local poolshop. Good as new.

Oh, I did also replace the filter sand about six months ago.

Getting good suction, do a backwash and rise regularly, just recently cleaned the pump leaf trap, sealed it nicely with a fresh lining of Vaseline too.

Don't know about the diaphragm. Where is this how do I check it?

Depends on model. Lots of videos on the web.

Check the diaphragm for cracks or slits.

My cleaner is actually a Genius (brand). Replacing the diaphragm is a three minute job: unscrew the big plastic nut at back, pull out (from the bottom/foot), the centre pipe with diaphragm attached, remove the old diaphragm, attach the new one, and reassemble. Voila! Good as new.

Edit: Just back from a quick dip. My cleaner is actually a Zodiac Pacer.

With the water restrictions and a 2 second dog (Border Collie) sprinting at break neck speed, my back garden has become one big sand pit. My pool has a permanent layer of very fine sand at the bottom which clogs up the pool filter withing minutes.
The only solution was to suck the sand up straight to waste (bypassing the filter)
As I did not want to lose the water, it was caught in a spare water tank which we emptied back into the pool after filtering the fine sand out again.

End result = creepy is creeping perfectly again.

short answer - as mentioned before; backwash and make sure you pool filter is not getting clogged up!
