So i got a speeding fine last month in the Kruger Park. The 'cop' said when i check out i will be asked to pay the fine. However when i checked out i wasnt asked to pay the fine and well. . .lets just say neither did i offer. Can a summons/ warrant of arrest be issued? Are the cops in the park REAL cops or WANNABE cops?

Even if you ignore a regular fine, don't they just send the warrant of arrest threat and then you still get a chance to pay first? Hmm, was a while ago so I can't quite recall. If someone can confirm that then maybe just wait for the post and see if anything comes.
yeh - you get a few notices, then a notice before summons, then a summons (which you sign for) - and only then a warrant of arrest - as far as I know, you can pay the fine up until the warrant of arrest.

Summons could be a lus if you live far from there, as afaik, you need to go the the court where offence took place. Still, why worry now? A couple hundred bucks if ever they track you down isn't worth it...

Non. Its the parks cops. He was wearing plain clothes and had a name tag or something. The car was even unmarked,just had 1 of those magnetic blue lights on the roof. I thought of not stopping 'cause by the time he got into his car and started it i could have been gone. But wasnt sure if he had my reg no. recorded, he could have then radioed the guys at the camp gate and then id be in bigger ***

Its kinda hard keeping it steady at 50. I dint even realise i was over the limit, not like i was doing 160 or something. And this was on my way back to the camp, i spent the whole day making sure i kept under 50. I spent more time looking at the friggen speedo than animals. And i was driving a rental car, no cruise control.

Just came back from the Kruger and you, sir, are full of sorry excuses. The provincial metro has jurisdiction over the roads in the Park - what you did is no different to being flagged down on your run to the local SPAR. Expect the same process with notices, summons etc. to follow, as with any other speeding offence.
What would you have done had you decided not to stop? Driven at a 100? A 120? To ensure he lost sight of you? And you would have reacted how exactly if you rounded a bend and were faced with a 6 ton elephant in the middle of the road with you going a 100 and plenty km/h? You shouldn't be in the park in the first place - I've just spent a week there and I would bet my life I didn't breach 50km/h once.

Aye its similiar overseas. An unpaid for £60 will get you at least 3 notices in the mail before a summons is issued. Each time a notice of payment is sent to you, the charge is increased so you could find yourself having to pay £250 eventually just to avoid a summons!

Whether in jest or not, keep in mind that if there is one place where speed limits are warranted, it's a national park. Many years ago, travelling at about 40km/h, an impala ran under my dad's car - the grass along the road was so tall that one couldn't see anything approaching the roadway.
When (if) you ever get to the Kruger, have a look at the pictures on the notice boards of lion cubs, antelope and all manner of other creatures lying dead on the Kruger's roads. Maybe the 'granny squad' will make a bit more sense to you then.

I cannot believe that the OP could actually start this thread off in the first place. Speed limits are there to protect the animals that you are paying to see. We are intruding in their space and are bloody lucky that we can still see them. If driving at 50 is a ballache, then don't visit the Park!

i am a proud member of the granny squad. in kruger, unless there is an emergancy there is no excuse to speed. i always go about 40km on the tar roads (that is 10km slower than the max speed), that way i am not constantly watching to see if i am going over the speed limit and it gives me plenty of time to make that sudden stop.
you don't need to look at the notice boards when you get to reception in kruger, just look on the roads. speeding is a real problem in the park at the moment and during a holiday, especially down around s***uza and lower sabie you will see plenty of road kill between the two camps because of people speeding.

Actually they're just hypocrites. You telling me they have never once in their lives exceeded the speed limit on a local, provincial, national or game park road? Yeah right!
I was last in the Kruger 20 years ago. We made friends with a game ranger and I quote his words, "You're with a game ranger now so you can go faster".
True story. Even game rangers exceed the park speed limit at times.
