Hi, Hope everyone is doing well,

I was just wondering if buying Krugerrands is worth the investment, what are some of the pro's and cons and/or what would be a better alternative investment if you believe Krugerrands isn't worth it

Thanks!

It is a Rand hedge, that is for sure

I bought some in the 1970s and the appreciation, should they be sold, exceeds nearly every other investment

But you must diversify, not all eggs in one basket

How do you tell the best value of a Krugerrands? Take it to 2 different shops to get a comparison?

Slightly offtopic - but is the cost of current krugerrands regulated, or do different outlets sell them at different prices.

Damn... will have to look around, might be a better option than keeping large amounts of cash in the house, at least the value increases.

To which address in Milnerton or West Beach are you moving to? :whistling:

Buying Gold is not an investment, it's to store value.
This. Worth noting is that when all the currencies and shyte falter, those who hold actual precious metals will be much better off than those with their useless paper money.

It's gold so just look at the gold price per onz.

That's true for a gold etf and probably what a dealer will offer you when selling your Krugerrand but buying a physical coin has a large premium.

Gold price is around R16 000.oz, a new coin will cost you about R28 000.

Definitely a waste of money at that premium.

Those who have guns and ammo and other useful things like needles and medicines will be much better off than someone with shiny metal...

The person prepping for the end of the world as we know it probably has guns and ammo, medicines and some shinny metal. Gold has been money since the beginning of time that won't change.

Buy KR on stockmarket and take delivery .. you will get them at the ruling gold price. Alternatively, buy gold bonds for same exposure and you get a bit of interest too.
