What do you think is the best way to protect Krugerrands? I decided to buy a few of them and they are on their way to my home.

Wonder what are the costs for a bank safety deposit box?

Lol, I'd rather walk around with them in my wallet then...
u could easily loose your wallet or someone could steal them. I am serious about keeping them in your house. Not really in your safe but in a safe space.

I am just afraid of a house robbery or a break-in.

That is not bad and definitely worth it. I'll go check with Standard Bank tomorrow. Do they need anything specific?

Are they the genuine thing, or titanium fakes?

Mine are genuine. Bought an ounce and a few quarter ounces.

I was at Scoin when another couple came in with 2 PnP plastic bags filled with cash, was promptly locked in store as they temporally "closed" to count money in machine. They had a break in and had 20-30 old coins on their table in the open, luckily they had no idea value and left. Some people are asking for it. Would have been like R2m gone.

I let fnb keep mine

That was one consideration, but my problem is their terms. If you run into financial problems they can sell it off to settle debt with them. If anything happens other creditors can take it too. I do not like this. Not that I am in trouble, but one never knows.

Well the point of Gold is to have cash value if shiz goes down, easily transported overseas, free as you say from creditors etc. Leave it at a bank safety box as they don't need to know what's inside.

Agreed Koeks, probably the best way to go

Should have done it 2 years ago ;) , bought KR@16k, now R20k. Scoin also does/did free safe custody(at Standard Bank vault), still costs a fraction if you have lots to safe keep. I got the Madiba birth-death medallion which I wanna go try sell at Pawn Stars :D

If it's as an investment , then the quarters are not going to be it - unless you bought them at the price of a full krugerrand /4.

Normally the fractions are more expensive than a whole one to buy and the repurchase is always based on the price of gold , so quarter ounce will pay you just that.

Not only that. If things get really tough (global crash) the government can and will seize it. Even the USA confiscated private gold in the 1930s.

No its not. It's directly link to the gold price. If u buy a quarter u should only pay a quarter of the money.

Rietrot is correct. The 1/10th, ¼, ½ and full Krugerrands are differently priced based on the price of Gold. However, that being said, some Krugerrands are more valuable to collectors than others. But, I do not deal with collectors, I buy from people based on the price of gold.

I have 2 1/10th which I bought at R2000 each. All my quarters I bought at R4900 to R5100. My full pound was bought at R23300.

I think you mean ounce. Otherwise let me know where you got it and I can go get me a few pounds at that price.
