I've just been gifted a set of KSS Audio speakers (5.1). It seems like a really nice kit, only thing is I've never heard of the brand, nor can I find anything online. Anybody know anything about them?

Never heard of them..

So my guess is they're rebranded something else... and probably nothing stellar.

But if they were free, they'll be epic for the price.

They'll be replacing the little Yamaha's I got bundled with my AVR (I know they're no name but they look really good). Can't wait to hear what they sound like. Just a little question - my amp is rated for 110W, 6 ohms. The new speakers are as follows:
  • center speaker: 150W, 8 ohms
  • front two speakers are 180W, 8 ohms
  • rear speakers: 125W, 8 ohms

Will I do any damage to my AVR if I connect these puppies up?

I see on the box it comes from a company called Connoisseur Electronics (Pty) Ltd. I'll give them a shout tomorrow and see if they can give me some more info on these cabinets.

Yes, you can damage the amp but you can also damage the speakers. As it is your amp is nowhere near capable of truly driving those speakers and the impedance issue makes matters worse. While 6 to 8 ohms is usually not that much of an issue, matters become more complicated when you add an inadequate amplifier to the mix, particularly in multi-speaker setups...

If they do work, your problem is that you won't get fantastic audio from them. You won't be able to determine their efficacy as speakers with an amp not rated to drive them properly...
