The KTM X-BOW is in its third year of production. To date, around 500 cars have been sold world
wide. The X-Bow will be available to South African consumers in the middle of August and will be
imported and distributed by X-Bow SA, an entity completely separate from the local KTM Motorcycle
distributor in South Africa. Entrepreneur Peter Henkel owns and manages X-Bow SA and will offer
the X-Bow as a fully homologated right hand drive road legal package ready to take on any mountain
pass, track day or race track.
At present the X-Bow STREET and CLUBSPORT are the only models planned for the South African
market, but plans for importing different models are in the pipeline. The main difference between the
various models being mainly adjustable suspension.
Pricing will be determined as soon as the first units arrive in South Afica. The base X-Bow is expected
to retail at around R995,000 (including VAT and import duties, but excluding any optional extras). Cars will be ordered to spec as required by the customer.
Thanks to the car’s light weight and the 177 kW (240 hp) Audi 2.0 TFSI engine, the KTM X-BOW sets
new performance standards and outstrips even far more powerful sportscars. Weighing in at around
790 kilograms, it accelerates from a standing start to 100 km/h in only 3.9 seconds. At the same time,
low fuel consumption (7.2 litres/100 km) and exhaust emissions (171 g/km) rival those of powerful
compact cars.
But the X-BOW isn’t just a racing machine, even if it does achieve spectacular performance on the
race track. With its modern technologies and exceptional dynamics, it’s also oriented towards sporty
drivers who seek a purist driving experience on the road. By foregoing electronic assistance and
extraneous, heavy comfort features, the X-BOW offers an unfiltered driving adventure. This is made
possible by the double wishbone suspension front and rear, the exposed mechanical components
and the unadulterated concept that leaves the X-BOW without a roof, doors or a windscreen. The
sportscar’s only concession is a 70 mm high, transparent wind deflector. Driving the KTM X-BOW
becomes an experience with an immediacy that can only otherwise be felt when riding a motorbike or
driving a single-seater racing car.
KTM, being true to its slogan of ‘Ready To Race’, has designed the X-Bow to compete on the road
and on the race track. With the option for adjustable suspension, the X-Bow is ideally suited to the
driver who wants to get more out of his car at track days and racing events.
