Kwikot Geysers any good

Hi

We have now had 2 Kwikot 150l geysers in about 10 years. The last one was only installed about 3 years ago and is leaking. We called Kwikot in and they sent someone to come and check. Their guys are saying that it is a "non compliant" install. We then spoke to another plumber (not the guy who did the install) and he says stay away from Kwikot as there quality is not good. He said it might last you 3 years and said they will send someone out and these guys will find any option to say non compliant install. We told him what happened to us and he said this is what "they" do.

Has anybody else had any issues with them, they now fall under Electrolux. What other options do we have, I am not very keen on a gas geyser but maybe this is an option, this is for a granny flat with 2 people.

Kwikot is pretty much the standard here. I doubt it's poor quality if everyone is installing them.
Gas would be a good option though, it should save you money in the long run.

kwikot geysers are good geysers ,but as with anything ,things can go wrong especially as they are coated inside where others are mainly mildsteel ,a non compliant install is probably due to the installer using the wrong vacuum breakers or only one and not two ,also the height of the vac breaker above the geyser is crucial to correct function ,temp may have been set over the design temp ,which is usually the problem ,t.p valve and regulator may also not be approved by kwikhot also overpressure and temp control at the pressure regulator may not be correct for the geyser ie a 600 kpa on a 400kpa geyser ,go up and have a look especially at the vacuum breakers ,green or red things sticking up .read the kpa on the label and the kpa on the regulators. 400kpa are red .

He told me I should be thankful

First copper geyser (no name) lasted from 1949 when house was built to 1980 when it was found unsuitable for use

Second copper one lasted from 1980 to 2014 when it leaked. Third copper geyser, a Kwikhot installed at the instructions of the ins co, lasted under 4 years. In 2018 I bought a Tecron 400kPa copper geyser.

The copper skin of the Kwikhot was so thin you could push it in with a finger. The thread for the geyser element was damaged due to someone fitting it in cross. The geyser had to be removed again and in doing so, wrecked the ceiling and flooded the floor. A R6500 claim ended up being R21000 due to negligence

if you have hard water the copper isnt good for you ,but its great at keeping microbes away

thats a 600kpa t.p valve (never seen a stem on a geyser yet ,different name maybe )and a 400 kpa pressure regulator.virtually only install 600s now but running them at 400 extends the life as its a lower pressure the geyser is but a vessel

so it should be better these days, but who knows

also: nobody ever replaces the sacrificial anode inside the Kwikot, rumour has it they will last forever if you regularly replace it

PS: my Duratherm geyser has outlasted any Kwikot I've ever had, but the company went bankrupt so not an option

Cheap anode can save you a lot. Unfortunately Kwikot did increase the thickness but it's still less than Heatech. 1.6mm vs 2.0mm 25% thicker.

Exactly this. Had my plumber come and change my element the other day and I asked him if he could replace the anode at the same time. He told me straight that unless it was last replaced less than two years ago he isn’t keen to even try.

I only install maxlite geysers. Its fully stainless steel, with a 10 year warrantee.

Its worth it. (My honest 2c).

1st sqare geyser outlasted all, after that Quikot geysers lasted around 10 years each, longest one 13 years, swell and start leaking.

My copper Kwikot lasted from 1989 until earlier this year,so that's about 33 years. Only replaced a couple of release/pressure valves over the years.

I'm on year 8 with my Kwikot solar geyser... A plumber/firend advised me that when it breaks, I should get a Tecron copper geyser.

Cheap anode can save you a lot. Unfortunately Kwikot did increase the thickness but it's still less than Heatech. 1.6mm vs 2.0mm 25% thicker.

apparently Kwikot's KwikSol geysers are 2mm though?
