Got a Timeshare week in Umhlanga next week, just checked that most of the beaches are closed. I would highly appreciate it if anyone could provide me with info on which beaches along the KZN coast that are actually open. I have also just picked up that there are water restrictions in the area, any info on how severe these are? I've seen the notices from Ethekwini but I believe that if the resovoirs in the area are filled up they are not heavily affected.

Water is apparently on from 6AM to 3PM daily, the rest of the time it is off. We are also headed down next week to Umhlanga.

Also would love to know which beaches are open. Hoping one can drive a bit North and find an open one as the current should be taking all the ecoli South as I understand it.

I did not know they could cut off the water to the oceans...wow...KZN is really insane

Durban is a no go atm unfortunately.

More than two months after all Durban’s beaches were closed because of the devastating April floods, several sewage treatment works are still kaput – and it could take several months to repair them....With sewage pollution still above safe swimming levels at several places along the Durban coastline, there is still no certainty on when the city’s main beaches will reopen.

Imagine what that is doing to tourism.

Random side question is tap water in Durbs safe to drink with all these issues?

All the beaches in Ballito are open, what doesn't make sense is that surfers are allowed on the beaches from Umhlanga to Ushaka but it's off limits for swimming.

Went to Willard Beach, Ballito. No issues. Perfectly healthy.

Swimming ban lifted on the South Coast

WARD 97 councillor, André Beetge, has announced that some South Coast beaches are open to bathing from Friday, July 1 after they were closed after the April floods as a result of E.coli contamination.

He said water quality test results have shown that the beaches of Amanzimtoti, Warnadoone and Umgababa are safe for swimming.

Other eThekwini Municity beaches open are uShaka, Point, Addington, South, Wedge, North, Bay of Plenty, Umhlanga main and Umdloti.

Check other sources as well.

Why do they have to close down perfectly good beaches just because of a little poop? Damn nanny state.
