KZN robber shot dead

A robber died and a policeman was wounded in a shoot-out in Isipingo, Durban, on Monday, said KwaZulu-Natal police.

The policeman came across four men robbing a local shop, said Colonel Jay Naicker.

They assaulted the shop owner and fled with an undisclosed amount of money and a firearm, he said. The policeman gave chase.

"The suspects opened fire at the policeman and he sustained a gunshot wound on his abdomen," Naicker said.

He returned fire, killing the robber. The other robbers escaped.

Naicker said the policeman was in a critical but stable condition in hospital.
