A 15-year-old boy drowned in a ditch in Slangspruit, Imbali, near Pietermaritzburg, while rescuing a child, The Witness reported on Monday.

Khethokuhle Dlamini was with a group of friends on Sunday when they spotted the child crying for help in the water-filled ditch, which had been dug for the installation of a sewage pipe.

After saving the child, Dlamini did not emerge from the water.

"This was not the first incident; last year two children drowned just a few metres away from here. That was supposed to be their wake-up call in ensuring children's safety," councillor Thokozani Magwaza told the newspaper.

Yeah because in South Africa we "wake up" to do something only when someone dies because of your negligence... oh wait sometimes you need several deaths before you "wake up" if at all. WTF!

intel?

Oh wait, sorry my mistake. :o
Sorry man I know I sound like him now but I get so upset that someone's death has to serve as a government employee's "wake up call." Fire the f0kker if you want to wake him up! I'm sure that will get his attention.

Sounds like the child couldn't swim or at least was a weak swimmer. If so then that is even more amazing.

It is one thing to jump into the water to save someone knowing you are a strong swimmer but it is something else entirely to leap into the water to save someone knowing your ability to swim is questionable.
