Hey Guys,

I'm new in the forum (and in the country). I understood in south africa you need a specific router in order to have a static IP, one that have L2TP ability without IPsec.
I'm sorry if this has been posted before but after a quick search I couldn't find what I was looking for.
So I'm looking for a recommendation for a router. The ones I know and understand are popular in this section are:
  • Billion BiPac 7402Gx
  • Zyxel SBG 3300-N
They are a bit expensive for my budget and I wanted to know if someone have an alternative for me. In case you don't, which one of them would you recommend?

Thank you in advance for your answers :)

Very simply get a Mikrotik RB750 and a simple adsl router. The ADSL router you set in bridge mode and setup a PPPoE connection on the RB750. Then afterwards setup the L2TP connection.

All the ISP's that I know support the Billion 7402, If you get that you'll be sorted

Hi Tzufso

It seems the Zyxel has more features and a better wireless radio. We are currently using the 1312's on a few sites and these are excellent devices. Let me know what you decide and how the device you go with performs, it would be interesting.

The problem is not with Mikrotik, the problem is with Afrihost and Axxess's flawed implementation of L2TP.

You can go with Billion and Zyxel routers if you want to get this to work, but they are pretty amateurish routers compared to a Mikrotik.

Thanks guys for your help.
It looks like I'm going for the Zyxel. Will keep you posted.
