Even if you used cable it wouldn't be great. Running an analogue AV signal into a digital 1080p FHD TV is never going to produce impressive results.

If all TV is going to do is display a low quality/res analogue signal (AV or RF), it would have been better to get entry Plasma with large well spaced pixels and corresponding low res. A high def 1080p TV will make all the signal imperfections apparent to you.

I have two of the same TV's and they are super.

My bedroom is about twenty metres from the DSTV box and I would love to get a HD signal into my room. I also won't be able to run cables.

Tx Roman. But for the price, I reckon I should go for it in any case. I've never seen the LA40D550 at that price before!

So I'll stream through the ellies av sender/receiver for the moment. Since I'm using a wireless NAS to share media to my lounge currently, I'll do the same for bedroom one and just suck it up wrt dstv signal quality loss.

If i truely want to watch HD tv, I'll goto the lounge.. Can't have everything i life i suppose ;-)

Hate those av things though... everytime I switch on microwave it BZzzzzzz's ;-)

R3,899 is an excellent price for 40" 5 Series, they are good entry level LCD TVs, work great as PC screens when set to PC Mode. They will suffer from inconsistent black levels, though due to S-PVA panel the deepest of the lot are pretty dark. SD via AV/RF is just very disappointing (I have 32" 5 Series LCD).

If you're looking for SD quality over AV/RF then you should look at the PS43D450/PS43E450 HD Ready plasma. I would take my PS42C450 for SD and HD any day over my LCDs, has deep consistent blacks which means a much higher contrast ratio and subsequent superior picture quality. The down side is that if you sit closer than 1.5-2m you'll probably want FHD if you have a lot of F/HD media.

Tx PP, always useful info :-) u just blew my mind (aka "man up") he he

I think I'll stick to the d550. Wouldn't mind having a panel for good pc support. gonna give it a shot, if it doesn't deliver I'll trade it back in for the plasma day after

Oo another q... Ps3 on d550 vs. plasma..... Suggestions? (for gaming and bluray that is)

Well thats where the tables turn (vs budget Plasma usually 1024x768 res).

A 1080p signal on a 1080p screen is going to look best, as there's no scaling (when TV in 1:1/PC mode). All Bluray's are 1080p and a good portion of PS3 titles, esp. newer ones, are 1080p capable (indicated on back of box).
